COURSE NUMBER AND TITLE: GEO112 - Geology and Soils
CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
The nature of geologic materials, structures and processes.
Includes an introduction to crustal material as well as the
processes which help shape the earth's crust, such as mountain
building, volcanism, continental drift, the work of ice, wind,
and running water. Includes the factors of soil genesis, physical
properties of soils, the role of water, inorganic and organic
nutrients, and some aspects of soil management.
Includes a two-hour lab.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF COURSE:
The student will be able to identify the common rock and ore forming
minerals, as well as the more common igneous, sedimentary and
metamorphic rocks. He or she will be able to identify in the field
or on maps the common landscape features and also identify the
agent(s) responsible. The student will be able to use topographic,
geologic and soil maps in basic planning work. The student will
demonstrate an understanding of the geologic environment.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
Class Lecture, Labs, Field Trips when possible
GRADING POLICY:
Evaluation Method: Tests 40%; Lab 40%; Final Exam 20%

N.B. Late Reports, Labs, etc., will not be accepted.

completed on the day of return, whether or not there is a scheduled
