COURSE NUMBER AND TITLE: PHY111 Survey of Physical Science
CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
This non-mathematical science course is for the student who
wants to understand physical phenomena in the areas of physics,
chemistry, geology abd astronomy without the mathematical detail
typically associated with a technical program. Such questions as
"Why is the sky blue?", or "What causes a red sunset?" can be
answered without a rigorous mathematical treatment. Examine the
great achievements in science and their impact upon our nation and
the world.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF COURSE:
As a result of this course a student will:
1) Learn the scientific method of study including but not limited
to observation, hypothesis, experimentation and theory
development.
2) Understand some of the fundamental laws of the physical
sciences of geology, astronomy, physics and chemistry and how
these laws govern the phenomena of our everyday lives.
3) Understand and appreciate the effect that man-made changes to
our environment have on the world around us.

Lecture/discussion, homework, exams, projects and demonstrations.
